Guaranteed procedure Age check 18+
It is very important to BepNL that alcohol is sold in a responsible manner, also online. BepNL is not allowed to sell alcohol to young people under the age of eighteen.
This document / page provides insight into the way in which BepNL gives substance to this responsible distance selling.
This meets the requirement set out in article 20A paragraph 1 sub b of the Alcohol Act that one must have a procedure that guarantees that the alcoholic beverage is only delivered to the addressee’s address or to a distribution point and that the age of the person to whom the alcoholic beverage is supplied is determined and that this procedure is also used.
This document / page is always up to date. This means that the document / page is updated with every change in the situation and is revised annually. The document / page contains a description of:
- the process that is used to monitor the age limit and to comply with the applicable obligations;
- the way in which this method is made known and clear to employees;
- the check on the correct compliance with the process and the way in which any corrections are implemented.
Age Verification System
Every visitor to our webshop who places an order is required to confirm that he/she is 18 years or older and that the recipient of this order is also 18 years or older and is willing to have his/her age verified with a valid ID.
This age verification system is currently not watertight. After all, anyone can indicate (including minors) that they are older than 18 years. The government will therefore create an age verification system in the not too distant future that will make it possible to determine the age of the consumer in a reliable and unambiguous manner. As soon as this age verification system becomes available, Brouwhoeve will switch to it.
Age Verification Delivery Service
For every order sent by BepNL, the delivery person carries out an age check. The delivery person checks the age of the recipient at the door based on the recipient’s ID. He will only give the package if the recipient meets the age requirement.
If the age check was not successful because the recipient was not at home, or because the delivery person could not check his/her age, the delivery person will take the package back with him/her. A shipment from the own delivery service will be returned to the store. A shipment from PostNL will be taken to a PostNL location nearby, where the recipient can pick it up with a valid ID. If no one comes to pick up the package, the shipment will be returned. If the addressee turns out to be someone under 18, the package will also be returned in this case.
Delivery to neighbours is no longer possible
It is not possible to have the package delivered to the neighbors when the age check has to be done. If the age check was not successful because the recipient was not at home, the delivery person will take the package back with him/her. The shipment will be returned to the store or to a PostNL location nearby, where the recipient can pick it up with a valid ID. If no one comes to pick up the package, the shipment will be returned.
How does BepNL ensure that everyone within the company adheres to the rules?
Informing employees
All BepNL employees are informed about the consequences of not complying with the sales rules. Every employee is required to take note of this document / page. The latest version of this document / page is printed out and always available to the store employees. Our employees are also actively informed about the sales rules and the importance of compliance during work meetings.
External delivery companies such as the parcel delivery companies PostNL are informed about the sales rules and the importance of compliance at the start of the collaboration. This information is again brought to attention during regular work meetings.
Checking the guaranteed method
In accordance with article 5.2 paragraph 1 under d of the Alcohol Decree, we investigate the implementation of the guaranteed method at least once a year. We do this by placing an order in our webshop and having the drink delivered to our private address. In addition, we consult with our logistics partner whether the deliveries meet the legal requirements.
If it turns out that alcoholic beverages have been delivered incorrectly to a person who has not yet reached the age of 18 or the alcoholic beverage has been delivered to another address, we will take corrective action
